Bangkok Governor Pushes for Safer, Accessible Streets

Bangkok’s urban landscape is undergoing significant changes as Governor Chadchart Sittipunt leads efforts to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. On Tuesday, he, along with Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon, assessed progress on a major footpath renovation along Itsaraphap Road near the MRT Itsaraphap Station. The renovation, launched in June, is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure within a one-kilometre radius of MRT stations, with completion targeted for January 2025.

Governor Chadchart highlighted the need for precise execution, focusing on the alignment of manhole covers and the use of quality construction materials to ensure public safety. He also stressed the importance of cleanliness and timely completion to prevent delays.

The inspection extended beyond footpaths, including a visit to a bicycle parking area near Wat Ratchasittharam Ratchaworawihan. Plans are underway to repaint and upgrade the area, supporting the city’s goal of becoming more bike-friendly and accessible.

In earlier rounds, the governor addressed concerns along Sukhumvit Soi 23, where road surfaces had been damaged during water pipe maintenance. He also visited the Lat Phrao intersection, where an extensive pavement upgrade is taking place following years of neglect. Residents in these areas have long faced issues such as potholes, uneven walkways, and construction debris, leading to calls for more orderly repair processes.

Through these coordinated efforts, Governor Chadchart aims to guide Bangkok toward a future that prioritises safety, convenience, and improved mobility for all residents and visitors.
