Media Outlets Form Alliance on Election Results Coverage

Thai media firms have formed an alliance to cover unofficial polling station results during the next general election. The action follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to employ a non-real-time official reporting style.

The Thailand Association of Digital Television Broadcasting has stated that it will collaborate to provide unofficial election results live from polling sites on election day. As the EC is implementing a non-real time reporting method this year, this initiative comprises 50 agencies and intends to disseminate unofficial election results to the public.

Suphab Kleekachai, head of the group, stated that the campaign plans to disclose the final, unofficial results from all polling stations across the nation by 9:00 PM, which is sooner than the EC’s objective of 11:00 PM.

Adisak Limparungpatanakij, the association’s campaign director and advisor, said that party-list MP tallies should be provided by 7:00 PM, and the leading candidate at each constituent should be reported by 9:00 PM the same evening.

The campaign will employ 100,000 volunteers to report on unofficial polling station results. They are actively recruiting additional volunteers for the mission, including political party observers and citizen volunteers.

Volunteers’ data from 95,000 polling sites will be analyzed at the campaign headquarters at Sripatum University in Bangkok and distributed to TV stations and internet news agencies.

The campaign is soliciting cash on the website D-Vote.com/TheWatcher, with the goal of earning 12 million baht to support activities at all voting locations across the country.
